How to Cope with Rising Heating Oil Prices

Here are some tips on saving money this heating season:

1. Have your heating system cleaned and tuned yearly to keep it running as efficiently as possible.

2. Install a programmable thermostat where you can set different temperatures for day and night.

3. Install triple paned windows with a high insulating value. Make sure all storm windows are closed.

4. Check for drafts under and around doors. Replace moldings and install caulk where necessary.

5. Make sure fireplace and burner chimneys are clean and that the dampers are working properly. Always close damper after a fire in the fireplace has burned out.

6. Pay for your oil delivery within 10 days and save 7 cents per gallon.
